Beyoncé - Run The World (Girls)

Beyoncé is one of the ruling queens of the pop charts.  For many years she seemed to rule by herself, but these days she's sharing the roost with the likes of Rihanna, Ke$ha, and Lady Gaga.  The video shows she feels the pressure from these competitors.  With blonde tresses, Beyoncé looks more like Shakira than she looks like herself.  Her outfits look more like Gaga than ever.  What's with the post-apocalyptic motif?  Again, she's following the trends others have set.  This isn't the Beyoncé who blew the charts away with Single Ladies.

On to the song.

WHY?!?!
WHY WHY WHY?!?!

Look, I have nothing against Beyoncé.  She has plenty of songs I like (or that my wife likes and I can tolerate), but this kills her winning streak to me.

The beat is just awful.  Obnoxious.  (insert your own adjective here).  It's not quite as bad as Diva, but it's a close second.

Beyoncé can sing, but you wouldn't know from the awful stutter voice effect.  While her lyrics have never been great, these don't even seem up to her normal sing along standards.  Typical female empowerment, we can have babies, we're strong song.  The beat/lyric/vocal effects combo could have been given to Rebecca Black with the same effect.
The song is getting airplay and meeting some success solely off the name of the artist.  It's peaked so far at 33 on the Billboard 100.  I would expect a Beyoncé song to shoot to number 1 immediately, but perhaps the public is getting a little tired of crap.

I'm all for artists trying something new, but they have to realize when something new doesn't work.  She's being praised for moving in new artistic directions, but this new directions sucks.  Stick with your formula B.  Not even all of Jigga's connections can save your career if you keep doing this.

  1. Yeah, this one was a bit more shouty, drummy, angry than I cared for. It's not the worst song in the world, but when I first heard it my shoulders started to scrunch in, my neck started to ache, and my vision blurred a bit. lol

I wonder how she's feeling about Kelly Rowland having a hit with "Motivation" and not her? That must be weird for her.

  2. Probably the idea of that music video is from America 3000 xD

If you didn't noticed this (or not), the song completely sampled from 2 or 3 of them. One artist I know off, is Major Lazer. Look up 'Pon de Floor' and you'll see. Unfortunately, lot's of artists these days are turning for sampled music and dance types (which all go horribly wrong).

  3. She is too old to be dancing around singing about GIRLS! She's a woman, why is she saying girls!? Women can help run the world, but girls can hope to one day be something. This all seems like a plot brand the minds of our daughters to be rebellious jezebels (insert:Willow Smith, also managed by Jay-Z, new song '21st Century Girl' says tell them what to do and they are not listening!). I decline the planned take-over of my mind that is being set out by Jay-Z and his people. Plus, there is SO MUCH wrong with this video! It makes me want to hurl! Grow up Beyonce! Rolling in the sand like you are a snake looks creepy!

  4. If I had Beyonce's body, I'd be rolling around in the snake and acting sexy well into my senile old age. ;)

This song is pretty meh, for me. It's not awful but it's not something I'd jam to as a lot of other songs by her. Then again, I kind of hated Halo too.

  5. Bullshit propagandist "feminine empowerment" song. I HATE Beyonce now. 'Tis so pathetic how the modern male has been demasculated so. And how the modern woman has been so DE-WOMANIZ'D by FEMINISM.WE NEED A SERIOUS SOCIAL, POLITICAL,ECONOMICAL, ARTISTIC, AND AMERICAN REVOLUTION in this Cuntry.(I punned the word for a reason, care to figure?)

  6. Beyonce used to be tight, back with destinys child and then her singles were killer....but shes taking this whole female empowerment way to far, im a guy and im all for equal rights, im 25 and for my whole life ive treated girls the same as guys and vice versa....its just gettin a little too much, its too repetative, she hasnt really thought of anything new, just a couple new lyrics and diff beats but about the same shit, now either shes livin in a time where women havent got any power/rights or i have no idea.....dont get me wrong i think shes hella talented...but i think shes lost something...plus no offence to ppl that like this song, i work in the stereo industry and this song sounds like shit even on a tight system...the beat line is wack...if u can even call it a beat....and music these days fuckin lack lyrics.....no body cares about them apparently. throw something on a track that ppl can repeat over n over again while they get hammered at a club! ugh enough ranting, love beyonce but she needs to re think her shit...as for the other artists out there, britney n all them....they pretty much are taking over and beyonce either needs to accept that or step her game up!
