I feel bad for Kelly Rowland. She went from being a megastar member of Destiny's Child to a has been pop performer with astounding quickness. She's spent her post DC years attempting to get the limelight back, but has met with resounding failure each and every time.
Her biggest problem? She's not Beyonce, and she's always going to be compared to her former group member. If you're not carving out your own little niche then you're going to be dubbed a copycat or a biter. Kelly isn't doing anything new, and she's not following convention all that well.
Her vocals on this track are boring. She's got zero charisma. Normally you'd expect Lil' Wayne to impress with his massive swagger level, but even he sounds bored, delivering one of his least interesting verses in the past six months.
With a weak beat, bland vocals, forgettable lyrics, and a boring guest verse, Motivation is the least aptly titled song this year.
(Song by request of my lovely wife)
i feel bad for YOU! it has been confirmed, you suck at judging music!!! this song is amazing and you are truley hating. Yes, I will admit that she hasnt come out with anything "interesting" in a bit, but this chart-topping hit is amazing, and I dare you to go up to a group of teenagers and I bet you, they'll know this song, probably by heart too! you must be white or something because you dont have the ability to differenchiate good music from bad.
ReplyDeleteIt has been confirmed! You suck at spelling!
ReplyDeleteIf you like the song, that's great. I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I'm just presenting my opinion.
2 more things:
1) This isn't technically a chart-topping hit. It's #3 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs, and #31 on the Billboard 100.
2) Teenagers might know the song, but that doesn't mean it is good. When I was a teenager, you could walk up to a group of people and they would know Limp Bizkit songs by heart. Looking at them now, Limp Bizkit is hot garbage. Popularity doesn't necessarily equal quality.
@tsweety: Sooo...I'm black and I don't like this song either. Your logic FAILS.
ReplyDeleteTo me, it's just an overblown sexy-pants anthem that's more suited to Beyonce than Kelly. She's always been the "sweeter" of the two personalities and I think she's wearing the wrong shoes by trying to be "brash and sassy" like Beyonce. I know she probably hates that she can't seem to shake the image, but I think every singer should sing what's best for her- in the case of Kelly, to me she struck GOLD with the very sweet "Dilemma" she sang with Nelly. I think she should keep true to that style and she'll have the success she's been looking for.
Or even the "Separated" with Avant.
ReplyDelete@ the idiot who wrote this about the song SHUT UP dude like to be real its a good song okk so you don't like it and don't mean you need 2be postin stuff about her cause you don't like the song wow how mature are you andd it don't matter if you black or white or asian or nunin we all have our diff views of music but th doesn't mean we go say things about people tht we don't need 2..so juss let it be if you don't like the song oh well then don't like it don't mean you gotta be sayin stuff about someone
ReplyDeleteOk, clearly the fool who posted this comment has no taste in music cmon now you compared Kelly Rowland to Limp Bizkit, Gtfoh, give credit when credit is due, she killed this song!!! And no she's not Beyonce a(personally I don't care for Beyonce)nd never will be but she did the Damn thang on this one.
ReplyDeleteHATE this song with a passion. She cant sing. It's def overrated.
ReplyDeleteBeyonce is overrated. She just happens to be marketable and fits nicely into society's idea of "black beauty". She was out sang by J. Hudson in dream girls and is a plastic barbie next to Kelly... So what if Kelly's not light skinned with long hair, she is beautiful and talented in her own right.
ReplyDeleteBeyonce is mega-popular, and I can see how that might lead you to think she's overrated.
ReplyDeleteBeyonce's dad was always marketing her, and her above average voice, charisma, dancing ability and good looks added to choice producers and songwriters led her to be a super star. Kelly was just a group member. I don't think her darker skin tone has much to do with her lack of success as does the fact that she's in Beyonce's shadow. I call out rappers who stupidly bring up skin tone (light skinned, yellow bone, red bone, etc). I hate that mess, arguing over melanin content is counter productive.
