Pink - F***in' Perfect

Ah Pink, she of contrived image.  Feisty and all too willing to flip society the finger.  Does anyone actually buy this?  She's had this media image she since debuted as the anti-Britney.  In a sense she's stayed true to this in her personal life (there aren't any photos of Pink getting out of a limo and lacking panties), but by not veering off into crazy town it makes her musical persona that much more phony.  She got married and has stayed married, raising a child in what appears to be a pretty steady household.

F***in' Perfect is another in the long line of "feel good about yourself" anthems.  Frankly, I have no use for these songs.  The truth is, no one is perfect.  Pink says in the lyrics that we're perfect to her, but let's cut the crap.  Pink is a multi-millionaire.  She doesn't give a elephant's anus about you outside of how many CD's and tickets you're going to buy.

If you have image issues, the last thing you need to do is puff up your ego by telling yourself you're perfect.  When reality hits you, it's going to hurt that much more.  In your life you will have successes and failures, they're a natural part of growing up.  You will get teased, you will fight with your parents, you will have bad breakups.  Deal with it yourself.  Who the heck needs this many self-therapeutic songs?

  1. While I'm not a fan of the song, it's purely because the first version I heard was the unedited one. Had I heard the radio version, I'd have loved it, but it was sullied with a rather harsh sounding curse word. It just doesn't fit with the theme, to me, of telling someone they're perfect.

That said...I think far too many people spend all their energy focusing on negative self dialogue. Specifically young women. 'I hate my -insert body part here that's perfectly normal-' is played upon by advertisers and companies looking to make a buck. I think that changing that negative self-talk into positive has a massive effect on a person's self image as well as having powerful effects on other aspects of their life. I'd much rather hear songs like 'Beautiful', 'Who Says' and 'Perfect', which bolster girls self esteem and encourage positive self-image, than hear more drivel about bitches and hoes.

I -also- have to differ with you on opinion about her lifestyle not working with her public image. I think she's a perfect example of how people who like alternative things (like unusual hair colors and non-traditional styles of dress) can lead absolutely 'normal' lives. We've stereotyped people into these little boxes of what they're suppose to behave like and we judge them based on those things, rather than their actual behavior. The exact same can be said of stars like Britney, who had a bubble-gum-pop-sweet-and-innocent image and then got married, twice, had two kids, divorced and lost her ever-loving mind. Society would have us believe that Britney should have settled down, got married, had kids and been the perfect little June Cleaver and that Pink would wind up in Britney's shoes.
